IPTC Data for EWA Submissions
When submitting digital images to EWA your images will benefit if you are able to embed some metadata prior to submission. Many images are location specific and it is difficult for us here at EWA to have all the information about an image to hand when applying metadata. Other specific details such as the date the image was taken, or certain design details, will not always be known to us here in the office. Much of the information is best applied by the photographer, the writer, your assistant or even the designer.
The IPTC field that we would benefit most in being completed prior to submission is the CAPTION field. This usually includes such details as the location and designer and provides a small amount of background to the image. We aim to keep the CAPTION field to less than 130 characters as this ties in with many of our global agents criteria.
For those of you confident in applying KEYWORDS we would welcome you to do so. Keywording can be a tricky science and we always suggest that ‘less is more’. Overkill with images can in turn make your own images suffer and put researchers off using the search engine. If you are interested in applying your own keywords to your images, which will speed up the process of getting your images on sale, Liz can provide you with an ‘EWA Dictionary’ of terms, words and phrases that we use consistently.
Many of you will be using different software to apply the metadata so if you would like to ask us anything specific, feel free to get in touch. Also, keep an eye on the news pages of www.ewadigital.com where sometimes we post technical advice and tips.
If keywording is not your thing, but you still have important and relevant information specific to the images you want to submit, you can compile a separate spread sheet detailing the information and we will work to input the metadata for you.
If any of you have any questions, or just fancy a chat, feel free to drop us a line on +44 (0)207 388 2828 or email info@ewadigital.com
And do not forget... We still accept transparencies and negatives!
